Beef Feeds

THE AGRIFOODS RANGE OF BEEF FEEDS

PEN FINISHING FEEDS

AGRIMOL ALL-IN FEED + IONOPHORE

(12,1% crude protein, 2% urea)

A complete, high-energy fattening meal containing all nutrients necessary for ad lib pen fattening. Because of its high palatability intakes on this feed can average 3,4% of a steer’s live mass per day and average daily gain at 350kg live mass is about 1,6kg. Because little or no adaptation period with extra roughage is necessary 18 month old steers weighing 350kg can usually be finished within 80 days.

MATURE FATTENING MEAL

(10,5% crude protein, 1,8% urea)

A complete pen fattening meal for cattle over 18 months of age. Because of its high palatability intakes on this feed can average 3,3% of a steer’s live mass per day and average daily gain at 400kg live mass is about 1,6kg. Because little or no adaptation period with extra roughage is necessary 21 month old steers weighing 400kg can usually be finished within 80 days.

MAIZE-SAVER CONCENTRATE + IONOPHORE

(32,6% crude protein, 8,5% urea)

This concentrate is to be mixed in the ratio 1:4 with milled snapcorn, giving a mixture containing 1.7% urea. The final feed should be fed ad lib to pen finish cattle. A break-in period of about 9 days is required after which a typical average daily gain would be about 1,6kg of live mass.

SUPER 10 BEEF CONCENTRATE

(62,2% crude protein, 11% urea)

This concentrate is to be mixed in the ratio 1:9 with milled snapcorn, giving a mixture containing 1.1% urea. The feed should be fed ad lib to pen finish cattle and, because of its relatively low urea content, is more suitable for feeding to young steers below 15 months than the higher urea pen finishing feeds. A break-in period of about 9 days is required after which a typical average daily gain would be about 1,6kg of live mass.

EASIMIX 75 CONCENTRATE + IONOPHORE

(75% crude protein, 21% urea)

A protein, mineral and vitamin concentrate which, when mixed at the ratio of 1:12 with milled snapcorn produces a balanced, high energy pen finishing feed which can be fed ad lib. The final mixture contains 1.6% urea. A break-in period of about 9 days is required after which a typical average daily gain would be about 1,6kg of live mass.

WINTER MAINTENANCE FEEDS

AGRIMOL 45 CUBES

(45% crude protein, 6% urea)

A very high quality cube with a high proportion of natural protein for maintenance of breeding stock and young stock on winter veld or equivalent roughage. Typical feeding levels are about 0,5kg per animal per day for a mixed cow herd and winter maintenance feed should always be laid out in a circle of sufficient circumference to allow 1m of feeding space per animal in order to minimise bullying.

CATTLE BREEDER BLOCK

(45% crude protein, 6% urea)

This 25kg block is of excellent consistency and similar quality to the 45% protein cubes. It can be used for the same situations where the convenience of a block is required. It is particularly suitable for breeding cows with calves at foot in late winter. Typically one block is sufficient to maintain a mixed cow herd of 17 animals for 3 days.

KATTLE KANDY MAINTENANCE BLOCK

(30% crude protein, 6% urea)

Compared to the Cattle Breeder Block this winter maintenance supplement contains a higher proportion of its crude protein in the form of urea which usually makes it cheaper per unit of protein. It is suitable for maintaining all cattle over weaning age on winter veld and where the convenience of a block is required. Typically one 25 kg block is sufficient to maintain a mixed cow herd of 12 animals for 3 days.

SUMMER VELD SUPPLEMENTS

HIGH ENERGY VELD FINISHER CUBES

(14% crude protein, 2% urea)

This cube contains a high level of energy and phosphorus, which makes it ideal for finishing cattle on summer veld. 350kg steers of 18 months of age typically could be expected to gain an average of 1kg of live mass with 3kg of these cubes fed on good summer veld grazing per day. Do not feed more than 4kg per day as this may reduce grazing to the point where live mass gain is reduced.

BOSFOS LICK

(7% phosphorus)

A loose lick containing phosphorus, salt, calcium and trace minerals and formulated to ensure adequate intake for all stock on summer and autumn grazing. These minerals tend to be most deficient on the high rainfall sandveld areas and more abundant as one moves towards the south east lowveld. Typical feeding allowances would be 100g per adult cow per day and research station trials have shown that phosphorus supplementation in summer should be very profitable.

DROUGHT SURVIVAL MEAL

(6% crude protein, 1% urea)

While this is not strictly a summer veld supplement it can be used as a substitute for good summer veld grazing or as a general purpose roughage source for ruminants where there is a shortage of roughage on the farm. The high molasses inclusion makes this feed very palatable.
